The difference between a good day and a bad day can be pretty striking.

Last night, Yumi Zouma’s stuff got the entirety of their band gear stolen from them just an hour before one of the biggest performances of their lives. A crushing blow to any artist, but these folks had more than that: they flew in from New Zealand, had their first shows in the US, the sound was poorly mixed, and despite cheers of encouragement, they slogged through only a three or four songs set and apologized off stage with distress.

By contrast, Leon Bridges performed right after them. He’s been slaying every audience who have bowed before him, and exploded the room here at the Hype Hotel. It was packed. The energy was palpable.

Probably it’s not fare to compare the two shows, though anyone who was there and felt the pain and anguish knew what it meant.
